Why Emulait Is For Everyone: Every Family, Every Feeding Journey

  • Tamar Paluch

At Emulait, we believe feeding your baby should feel natural, empowering, and right for you. Whether breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or combo-feeding, our mission is simple: to support your feeding journey.

When we developed Emulait, we were thinking of the moms and babies who struggle with the transition between breast and bottle. Leading health organizations recommend breastfeeding until two years of age, but many families find it challenging to maintain beyond six months – because of life circumstances, like returning to work, mental health, the demands of everyday life, or because baby refuses to return to breastfeeding after experiencing the ease of bottle feeding. We wanted to support breastfeeding for as long as possible, by creating a bottle which mimics the feel, form and function of mom’s breast. Along the way, we discovered that Emulait can actually offer the healthiest and most natural feeding experience for any family - read on to find out why!

Why Emulait Stands Out From The Crowd

Bringing together science, engineering and empathy, Emulait has bottled the benefits of breastfeeding in a way that sets it apart from the market standard. Emulait is much more than a breast-shaped bottle. Emulait bottles have a super-flexible nipple, and together with our unique Responsive Flow Valve, support active suckling rather than passive feeding. This promotes optimal oral development by engaging the jaw muscles and exercising the vagus nerve, which controls these muscles, and also allows baby to pace their feed as they would at the breast.

Conventional baby bottles offer a free-flow feed, so the bottle needs to be manually controlled to stop baby overfeeding. As babies grow and become better feeders, you need to upgrade the flow by switching nipples. With our Responsive Flow Valve, Emulait saves you the guesswork, and saves baby from overfeeding. You don’t need to switch out flows, because your baby’s suckle does all the work. Here is a handy comparison chart that illustrates what Emulait can offer you and your family.

Finally, feeding isn’t just about getting milk from bottle to baby! Feeding your little one is all about bonding, and the socioemotional benefits of this are well-documented in the literature on breastfeeding. For those who bottle-feed from day one, Emulait offers more than convenience. The bottle is designed to nurture the mother-baby bond (or emulate it between any other caregiver and the baby). Unlike conventional bottles, you can hold your baby in a comfortable and relaxed nursing hold while maintaining eye contact. This proximity allows you to follow their hunger cues (one of their early forms of communication!) and enjoy the moment, elevating bottle-feeding to a more meaningful experience – similar to responsive feeding.

A Unique Feeding System for Unique Families

Moms and families are at the heart of the Emulait design process. Modern families are diverse, and the way they are built and the demands they experience are ever-changing. Babies spend less time with their nuclear families, and they spend less time on the breast. We wanted to offer families a way to recreate and maintain some of the benefits of breastfeeding, offering flexibility and choice without compromising on health and wellbeing.

To close the loop, we have also developed the Emulait app to help you feel confident and connected on your parenting journey. Whether you prefer simple or detailed tracking, the app is designed to keep you on top of baby’s feeding, diapering and napping, especially if you are sharing the load with family members or other caregivers.

The Emulait feeding system has been built to support:

Moms Returning to Work: Returning to work is one of the biggest stressors for moms with young babies at home. You're juggling a lot – pumping, work schedules, feedings, and all the emotions that come with being apart from your baby. Many moms worry that if they introduce bottle-feeding, their baby will refuse the breast; other moms find that their baby refuses to take a bottle. These experiences are stressful, and Emulait was designed to help ease moms and babies through these transitions with the goal of giving moms peace of mind that feeding can stay familiar, even when they are not around, and that they can combination-feed successfully.

Moms Facing Medical Limitations to Breastfeeding: Not everyone can breastfeed, and that doesn’t make the feeding journey any less special. Whether due to low supply, past surgeries, or new health concerns, Emulait helps ensure that bottle feeding offers the healthiest and most natural feeding experience. Using Emulait also offers the warmth and interpersonal dimension which moms often miss if they haven’t been able to choose breastfeeding. For moms who are navigating cancer treatments or have had a mastectomy, they may find it especially gratifying to offer their baby a bottle that approximates the benefits of breastfeeding.

Preterm Babies Needing Supplementation: Feeding preemies comes with its own challenges. For some pre-term babies, Emulait’s design can be helpful in ensuring that your baby can return to breastfeeding once they are ready. Additionally, the soft nipple avoids the overstimulation of rigid conventional bottle teats – together with the effort-free flow of milk, these babies can get hooked to the ease of bottle feeding.

Adoptive and Surrogate Families: Families built through adoption or surrogacy often navigate unique feeding journeys. Emulait provides a meaningful solution for parents who want a breast-like bottle that supports closeness, eye contact, and connection – even if they aren’t breastfeeding themselves.

Same-Sex Families: Love builds families, and feeding is one of the first ways that love is expressed. For same-sex parents, whether one partner is breastfeeding, or both are bottle-feeding, Emulait creates a consistent, nurturing experience that supports shared feeding and bonding.

Caregivers, Grandparents and Beyond: Parents can’t be everywhere! Being able to share feeding tasks with family members or caregivers provides a huge relief to moms. Whether your baby is with a caregiver, nanny, or grandparent, Emulait helps ensure a smooth, familiar feeding experience, no matter who’s holding the bottle. Connect your support team to the Emulait app and you will be able to keep track of all the feeding, diapering and sleep activity while you are out.
